Spring Break '09 Pt2
Ok, so i think i left off with being in Eureka.
Eureka is an interesting town. It has a lot of artistic style and there are quite a few places with fun knick-knacks, cool art, and a lot of good food (not just because of the local seafood). But it's weird at the same time, for even though there seems to be a lot of interesting places to go and see, it is really expensive to live there and there seems to be a lot of... deterioration? Not that there's decay, it's just that there aren't enough people there to really make use of the area. And it's cold! Not really on the same note but geez, it's always so cold there!
Whenever I try and recollect all that happened there in Eureka, the main thing that I always think of is the day Brittany and I got to walk around downtown Eureka. Not that the other days didn't have a lot going on, it's more that Eureka had the most to see and was probably the most interesting (and affordable! it's no fun to just always stare at things when i can never try it out, especially food...). I always see lots of little shops around that sell faerie stuff and glass ware, but in old town Eureka they finally did one right, with a lot of magical statues and fantastic wares that were really intricate in detail. It was very cool. There were also a lot of little snack shops along the way with tasty snacks that weren't overly expensive (like italian soda, baklava, and truffles). We ended our time in a square with a ton of pigeons that were very used to humans.

And i love this photo of a bunch of 'em getting ready to land.
Spring Break was a nice change from the usual. And went by waaay too fast

Spring Break '09
Ok, so this last week and a half Brittany and I went to Lakeport to spend time with Brittany's grandma Liz and great grandmother Virginia, as well as releasing the ashes of Britt's aunt. The releasing of the aunt's ashes also brought down her other grandmother, Bonnie.
From left to right: Brittany, great grandma Virginia, Melissa, Bonnie, and Marti (great aunt)
In Lakeport we spent a lot of time at family's house, either playing games with Britt's sibings, Garrett and Conner (tons of Settlers of Catan), or watching tv. The funnest thing we did was take a trip into small town Clearlake and walk around the unique shops. Nothing too extraordinary about the place, but there were some fun shops that we checked out. One of those shops specialized in artistic gourds.
After spending a few days in the Lakeport area we took the very curvy road all the way to Eureka. It's amazing how quickly a vacation goes by when I am in a new place, and especially when I am busy doing things. Not to say that Eureka was always hopping, there was a lot of downtime at the Callahan home, but even then it still moved pretty fast with playing games, both computer and on boards (Settlers... lol) and trying to rush through the series Battlestar Galactica that they have on DVD.
Hopefully will write more about vacation later. Going to go with Britt into town to buy groceries so we each have something to eat for the upcoming term :P

Finding Ferndale
We made a trip to Ferndale today with Grandma Bonnie, and my mom. The camera died though so we only got a few pictures. We ran to the drug store down the street to replace the batteries but the ones we bought were defective. We also stopped at the candy store and I got some divinity fudge to share with Jared. I was given a cute green hat as a farewell gift from Bonnie when our adventures were over. All in all a very pleasant day :)

Rugby Game
Just thought I'd drop in and update some. Here's a bunch of clips and pictures from Garrett's rugby game today.
This first video is just a brief clip from my brother, Garrett's, rugby game. Garrett is #4, on the blue team. If you watch closely, you can see him help lifting another boy in the air during a toss in.

Mollies Late Night
Yesterday, Jared and I went to spend the gift certificate my mom gave us to Mollie's. We took Derek and Sierra with us because it was a $25 dollar gift certificate with a $35 dollar minimum purchase... and food at Mollies... is fairly inexpensive. So we had a challenge in front of us! Both Sierra and I had been to a wing meeting earlier and had eaten pizza and cake, so we were both fairly full. That in mind, we figured we'd order something we could take back home with us too.
When we got to Mollie's, I had someone validate the certificate first (just to be sure). Once we knew it was fine, we sat down and started to plan. Three out of four of us ordered drinks, and everyone ordered something fairly big. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - I guess I just remember ordering the smaller meals. In the end, we more than met our goal. Sierra went home with almost all of her casadia. Derek left with a ton of cheesy fries and a jumbo sized cinnamon roll, while Jared and I both managed to finish our enormous burgers and only left with a ton of fries. Yay for Fries! It was a lot of fun just being able to sit and hang out with them again. Derek asked for a bribe for driving us to the train station next week - he wants to play more games lol. Especially when Sierra goes home early after finals. Sierra is leaving on Tuesday! That's so early. I'm not done until Wednesday and the train won't leave until 10 at night anyway. Jared's finals are all on Tuesday too, but he's stuck here with me lol. Poor Derek has finals almost every day until Thursday (I think he has five). Good luck to everyone with all your exams!

Weekend Updates
Sunday night, Jared and I played the longest game of Quiddler in the world...
We played with Sierra and Derek!

The game lasted two and a half hours.. it completely fried my brain.
I think we'll be playing more Settlers and Fluxx for bit.
Normally Jared and I either play games with Sierra and Derek or with Nicole or sometimes all of them.

This is a random picture of them at the bowling alley. It was taken over the summer I think.
